Tourism organization begins Sharable Moment initiative

RTO4, a regional tourism organization operated by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport, has begun a contest promotion called the “Sharable Moment Challenge.” The organization works to promote tourism in the Ontario cities of Huron, Perth, Waterloo and Wellington. The initiative encourages tourism destinations, businesses and operators in the region to submit ideas for experiences that visitors will share via social media. Submitters of winning ideas will receive funding from RTO4 to develop them. A total of $30,000 will be awarded to ideas in two categories: destinations and individual businesses, events and tour operators. Submissions will be open until Jan. 15.
“We’re asking people to be bold and creative,” said Andrea Gardi, director of projects and operations at RTO4. “We really want them to think out of the box. We’re looking for ideas that will capture the essence of a destination’s DNA, what makes them unique. The ideas themselves can be simple, but at the same time they can be very dramatic and engaging. Each idea should have a clear sense of place. We want people to know exactly where pictures shared by visitors were taken so they are inspired to experience it for themselves.”
