Study: Food consumer trends in 2019

Nourish Marketing of Toronto has released the results of a study into food industry trends expected in 2019. The study was conducted in association with Kahntact of Guelph, ON. According to the report, food industry trends next year will include a consumer focus on the reduction of food waste and packaging. Other predicted consumer trends for 2019 include a reduced consumption of meat, a decreasing focus on diets, an increasing use of nutrition-tracking mobile applications and a shift in priorities from physical to emotional well-being, among other.

"Trends have staying power," said Nourish Marketing president Jo-Ann McArthur. "They influence consumer behaviour and are likely to evolve, adapt and join the mainstream rather than disappear. On the other side, we see many fads come and go. These will quickly rise to prominence and just as quickly vanish when they're found to lack substance."
