Reel FX opens Montreal studio

Dallas-based animation company Reel FX is expanding into Canada with the opening of a studio in Montreal. The company specializes in animation for the film industry, as well as virtual reality and augmented reality through its Flight School division. The Montreal location will also host a training program in association with the Government of Quebec. Reel FX plans to have 50 staff in place in Montreal by the end of May, expanding to approximately 200 by the end of the year.
"We considered other cities before choosing Montreal, where we received a welcome second to none and where we already have a number of friends," said Steve O'Brien, president and CEO of Reel FX. "We decided on Montreal for several reasons, including its unique culture, the amazing talent pool in visual arts, the outstanding quality of the universities and the competitive operating costs found in Quebec."
