Rogers to buy Vancouver radio station from Newcap

Rogers Media has reached an agreement to acquire Vancouver AM radio station CISL from Newcap. The agreement remains subject to CRTC approval. If granted, Rogers will rename the station Sportsnet 650 and change its format to all-sports programming. The station currently plays popular music of the 1960s. The transaction is expected to close this summer, with the rebranding to follow in the fall. Rogers also operates Sportsnet-branded radio stations in Toronto and Calgary.

"We are excited to build upon our strong radio brands in the Vancouver market," said Julie Adam, senior vice-president of radio at Rogers Media. "With Vancouver being such a passionate sports town, there is a strong appetite for all-sports radio that delivers engaging conversation, wide-ranging opinion, and top-tier live sports content."
