CAA-Quebec begins Worst Roads campaign

The Canadian Automobile Association of Quebec has begun an online initiative to find the worst roads in the province. The intent of the effort is to raise awareness of the importance of road maintenence. Until May 24, residents of the province can visit <http://www.worstroads-caaquebec.com> to nominate a road or vote for a road. The site includes an interactive map to locate and submit poorly maintained Quebec roads. Beginning at the end of May, CAA-Quebec will use the list to encourage relevant authorities to repair the roads deemed to be the worst. The initiative also includes social media activities.

"When we say 'worst road,' we mean worse that a couple of potholes," said Sophie Gagnon, vice-president of communications and public affairs at CAA-Quebec. "We're talking about surfaces in such bad shape that they can not only cause damage to vehicles, but are also a threat to traffic safety. After the frigid winter we've just been through, we want authorities to heed the message that it's important to be even more vigilant and take the necessary action, because too often, simply patching the cracks isn't enough."

While CAA organizations in several provinces have conducted similar efforts for several years, this is the first time the Quebec chapter has undertaken a "Worst Roads" promotion.
