Conservation Bureau breaks awareness campaign in Toronto

The Toronto-based Conservation Bureau has begun an awareness campaign to encourage Torontonians to conserve electricity during the summer. The initiative, called “It’s Up 2 You,” uses radio advertising to suggest that residents and businesses turn up their air conditions by two degrees, minimize the use of major appliances until after 8 p.m. and switch to more energy efficient devices such as compact fluorescent light bulbs. “Our goal is to create a culture of conservation,” said Peter Love, chief energy conservation officer for Ontario. “The people of Ontario are looking to Toronto businesses for leadership. Their participation ensures our goal is a collaborative effort. Everyone needs to do his or her part.” The campaign is being conducted in association with the Toronto Board of Trade and the Building Owners and Managers Association of The Greater Toronto Area. The Conservation Bureau is a division of the Ontario Power Authority.
