Yellow Pages Group holds community contest

The Yellow Pages Group of Montreal has begun a contest aimed at small businesses called "Make it Real: Better Businesses for Better Communities." The contest will run in 10 Canadian cities: Kelowna, Nanaimo and Prince George in British Columbia, Medicine Hat and Red Deer in Alberta, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo and Sudbury in Ontario, and Baie-Comeau, Gatineau and Rimouski in Quebec. The contest is intended to recognize businesses with fewer than 50 employees that improve their communities through charity fundraising, volunteer work, environmentally friendly operations and other activities. A local panel of judges with choose two winners in each city. Cash prizes will be split between the winning companies and the charities of their choice. The top winner in each community will receive $5,000 with $1,500 going to charity. The runner-up will receive $2,500 with $1,000 going to charity. Yellow Pages Group will publicize the names of the winning companies in the community sections of local Yellow Pages directories. The deadline for submissions is May 1. The winners will be announced on June 14.
