HEALTH CANADA BEGINS NATIONAL WEST NILE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
Health Canada broke a national West Nile virus public education campaign yesterday. The initiative is intended to complement various provincial campaigns currently in progress. The campaign will consist of posters, displays and flyers in the outlets of 13 retail chains nationally. Awareness materials including a poster have also been developed for First Nations. A pamphlet will also be sent to nursing stations and community health centres on reserves. Parks Canada and Communications Canada will assist in the distribution of this information. Non-government organizations including the Canadian Public Health Association and the Retail Council of Canada will also help deliver information to the public. The campaign materials provide basic information about West Nile virus and direct readers to a toll-free telephone number and Web site for more details. The materials also describe steps readers can take to protect themselves from the virus.
