OLYMPIC SPRINTER BRUNY SURIN SUES SPONSOR
By Adnews Staff
Olympic sprinter Bruny Surin is suing Vidéotron for breaching a sponsorship contract, according to a Canadian Press report. After failing to reach an out-of-court settlement Surin brought the matter to Quebec Superior Court. In court documents Surin says the former chief executive officer of Vidéotron, Claude Chagnon, signed a sponsorship agreement with him and paid him $150,0000. However after Vidéotron was purchased by Quebecor in 2000, the new owners failed to respect the remainder of the contract. Surin's claim is that Vidéotron owes him the remaining $100,000 in addition to $20,000 for legal expenses. According to the report, Surin's picture appeared on Vidéotron's Web site and Surin wore Vidéotron badges on his outfits when racing.
