ALLIANCE ATLANTIS, AOL HOLD LORD OF THE RINGS CONTEST
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Alliance Atlantis began a contest on AOL Canada this weekend to promote the upcoming release of the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. For the next three weeks, AOL members can answer Lord of the Rings trivia questions in hopes of winning a Volkswagen Beetle and other prizes. The trivia questions are divided into three parts: The Shire to Rivendell, Rivendell to Moria and Moria to Amon Hen. The five highest-scoring players at the end of the contest will be flown to Toronto for an advanced screening of the movie on Dec. 14. A draw from among the five will determine the grand prize winner. The grand prize consists of a 2002 Beetle GTS, a one-week trip for two to New Zealand from Air New Zealand, Air Canada and Goway Travel, two gold rings with Elven inscriptions, a Tolkien library from Harper Collins Canada, a goblet set from Burger King and a CD library from Chapters and Indigo Books. In addition, each day of the contest 10 random players will win prizes from Burger King, Harper Collins and Indigo. Lord of the Rings-themed AOL Canada free trial CD-ROMs are available at Burger King, Chapters and Indigo locations for any would-be participant who is not an AOL member. The contest is open to all Canadian residents except those of Quebec. In Quebec a separate contest is being held which will give away a tour of castles in France. Quebec residents can enter this contest through AOL, the Alliance Atlantis Web site, or by mail. The contest will be promoted on all Alliance Atlantis television channels, including Showcase, Life Network, History Television, HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada.
