COUCHE-TARD ACQUIRES R-CON, EXPANDS PRESENCE IN WESTERN CANADA

Convenience store retailer Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. of Laval, PQ, has acquired R-Con Centres Inc., which holds the master franchise for Mac's stores in Manitoba. There are currently 31 stores in Manitoba, eight of which also sell gasoline. "The acquisition of R-Con Centres fits into our growth plan for the high-potential market of Western Canada, where our development team expects to continue expanding the network at the rate of about 30 new stores a year," said Alain Bouchard, president and chief executive officer of Alimentation Couche-Tard. Alimentation Couch-Tard operates a network of convenience stores in eastern, central and western Canada as well as in the midwestern United States under the names Mac's, Mike's Mart, Becker's, Daisy Mart, Couche-Tard, Provi-Soir, Dépanneur 7 jours, Winks and Red Rooster.
