SPORTING GOODS RETAILER GETTING BIGGER IN CANADA

The Sports Authority will have four more of its megastores operating in the Toronto area during the Christmas season. Three opened their doors this week and one will be operating by Dec. 14. Radio, TV and print advertising provided the fanfare for the openings this week. It was handled by Ross Roy Advertising of Detroit. Toronto-based Advance Planning & Communications is doing public relations. The U.S.-based sporting goods retailer plans to open another five stores in the Toronto area next year, and then expand across the country. Its first Canadian store opened in Toronto in August. The Sports Authority has 110 stores in 24 U.S. markets.
